What expectations did you have beforehand?

We have grown very fast internationally in recent years. As a result, we have doubled several times in people, revenue and projects. And we are still ambitious. Procurement tasks were divided among several colleagues in our organization. We are now at the point where we need someone dedicated to procurement. Someone who has the specialist knowledge to bring to us the right structure that can grow with our ambition.

At MJ-Tech, we like to build a very intimate customer relationship, and that often starts with good supplier relationships to meet customer demand. For this position, we were looking for someone who can do tactical procurement, manage certain supplier dependencies and take procurement to the next level. I expected it to be difficult to find candidates for this position. That is the reason we chose to use a professional agency.

What is the reality like?

Chris matched very well in terms of knowledge and skills to what we were looking for and also certainly fits our culture in terms of personality. After 3 or 4 weeks it was as if he had been working here for years. Within our organization he quickly gained our trust. With the challenges in the current procurement market, he couldn’t have come at a better time.

MJ-Tech employs very social, no-nonsense people. We prefer to show what we can do rather than shout it from the tower. We always go the extra mile and everyone has the freedom to take initiatives themselves. With us, you have to make sure that the idea is realized. That is where we see a clear match with Chris. He gets a lot of energy from initiating new things.

What is your Return of Investment (ROI)?

Chris did a great job of mapping out our procurement relationships. Where are we doing well, where could we do better and where are the risks? And we started working on that. The fact that someone now devotes full-time time and attention to it translates tremendously into our purchasing arrangements. We have much more flexibility in our purchasing options. Chris has implemented ERP and he has a great perspective on how we can start scaling up purchasing. Quality controls are also being handled more efficiently. And the savings realized! Yes, Chris has contributed quite a bit over the past year on a broad front.
